Currently, there are increasingly intense competition in business world and increasingly advanced ways that are developed to accomplish goals and objectives in a more effective and more efficient manner. One of the ways is by maintenance costs budgeting of productive tools in order to reduce the amount levels of defect products. However, would the availability of the maintenance cost of productive tools, that decreases the amount levels of defect products or the availability of the maintenance costs that is small and modest, increase amount levels of defect products. The purpose of this research was to find out the extent of influence of maintenance costs of productive tools on the amount of defect products. In this research the writer used data sample of maintenance costs of productive tools and amount of defect products for time period of 1998-2006. The research method used was descriptive method with a quantitative approach. The analysis conducted was statistical analysis by using an approach of simple linear regression analysis, Pearson correlation analysis, and coefficient of determination analysis, and then tested furthermore by using t test. From the research the writer conducted, it was obtained data on maintenance costs of productive tools and amount of defect products of Perum Percetakan Negara RI (State Printing Company of Republic of Indonesia), Kupang Branch, from 1998 to 2006, and then the writer processed it to obtain the following results: The result of Pearson correlation analysis was -0.955, meaning that there was significant relationship between maintenance costs of productive tools and amount of defect products. From the research results as a whole it could be concluded that maintenance cost of productive tools actually has influence on the amount of defect products at Perum PNRI, Kupang Branch.
