Abstract

The title of the thesis is ¢Analysis of State Proposition in Two Novels of Sidney Sheldon and Their Translations (A Study of Semantics and Syntax)¢. In the thesis, the writer analyzes the state proposition semantically and syntactically. Semantically, the writer analyzes the concepts that form the topic and comment of state proposition; then the writer analyzes the relation that can be interpreted from each state proposition. Meanwhile syntactically, the writer analyzes the grammatical structure that state proposition could be given, so it could be known the equivalent of translation; whether it uses a grammatical structure of source language or paraphrase. For this research, the writer used descriptive comparative method. The writer found that the topic and comment of state proposition could be formed by simple and complex concepts, then state proposition could be expressed in other grammatical structure and also expressed by its grammatical structure of source language, later the equivalent of translation that the translator given for in the target language aren¢t using source language grammatical structure but also using the result of the paraphrase process.
