Abstract

This thesis is entitled The Analysis of Translation of Separable and Inseparable Phrasal Verb in Danielle Steel�¢���� Kaleidoscope (a study of syntax and semantics). The writer analyze syntax and semantic transformation in translating phrasal verb, the writer also analyze whether there are the translation shift on the source language to the target language. In addition, the writer uses the descriptive comparative method. The data sources of the research are a novel of Danielle steel entitled Kaleidoscope and its translation entitled Kaleidoskop. Translation method analysis in the research is studied based on the theory of Larson, the theory is used to know whether the phrasal verb is have literal or idiomatic meaning. Moreover, syntax and semantic transformation is needed to get the equivalence of translation, so that the meaning of the separable and inseparable phrasal verb can be transferred well into target language. The result of this research show that there is translation shift which occurs on the syntax part but the translation shift is occurs in the semantics part when the translating phrasal verb from source language to the target language.
