Abstract

This skripsi entitled ��Women��s Rights in Puritan Society as Reflected in the Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne (A Study of Radical Feminism)�� contains an analysis of women��s rights which indicates as the oppression of women in puritan. In doing this skripsi, the writer uses the theory of sexual politic by Kate Millett. In her book sexual politic, Millett explains eight aspects developing the patriarchal system. However, the writer takes four of them based on the data found in the novel. There are biological, sociological, economic educational aspect, and anthropological aspects which contain myth and religion. To analyze the data found in the novel, the writer uses analytic descriptive method. Before analyzing the data, the writer selects the data indicating as the women��s rights, then the writer classifies the data based on the several aspects in sexual politic. Based on the research, the writer finds that the oppression of women is influenced by the belief of puritan. The belief of puritan constructs the patriarchal system which finally limits the right of women.
