Abstract

Malaria has been a major public health problem in Indonesia. To control malaria is extremely difficult due to complex interaction between host, agent and vector, especially drug resistance and vector resistance to insecticide. Therefore, alternative methods to control malaria which are effective and safe are needed. This study was designed to know the effect of seed oil of Azadirachta indica on Plasmodium berghei in mice as an animal model (in vivo). The subjects were divided into groups and were treated for a period of 4 days after infection, and the blood samples were collected from all experimental animals and the parasitemia were examined with Giemsa staining. The results of this study showed that the effective doses (ED,) of A. indica seed oil was 973.93 mg/Kg BW.
