Since 1974 organophosphate (i.e. malathion and temephos) insecticides have been used in the Dengue Haemorrhagic Fever vector control programme especially in Yogyakarta Special Region included Sleman Regency.Yogyakarta Town showed a tendency of resistance of Ae.aegypti mosquito larvae to organophosphate insecticides. It is quite possible that a tendency of resistance exists of other mosquito to insecticides used because the exposure would affect them too. The objective of this study is to know the possibility of resistance of Cx.quinquefasciatus larvae which are not the fogging target by detecting nonspecific enzyme activity esterase of Cx.quinquefasciatus larvae in Sleman Regency. The research is a Quasi Experimental with non randomized pretest post test control group design, where the study areas consisted of 4 villages of 4 sub districts respectively in Sleman Regency. The method used is a filter paper spot technique for esterase activity of Cx.quinquefasciatus mosquito larvae collected that hydrolizes a/.8 naphthyl acetate. The results shows that the Cx.quinquefasciatus mosquito larvae collected from the fields in Sleman regency have shown a tendency of resistance to malathion insecticides due to the increased activity of esterase.
