This study aims to find out the application of the theory of differential association by Sutherland in the characterization of Shiraishi Itsumi in the novel Ankoku Joshi by Akiyoshi Rikako. The purpose of this study is to describe the differential association as the cause behind Shiraishi��s cause of social deviation. The research method used is descriptive analysis. The result showed that the differential association in shiraishi Itsumi characterization was described as an acceptance of a deviant subculture since childhood from the family.
