Abstract

Characters in animated movies role importantly in bringing the story alive. Design of character become significant, because these character will be the one whose been atracted by viewer, wether be liked or disliked. And also, place the story in an interesting way, so as fun, thrilling, sad, scary, touching, or else, that can be thinked of. The protagonist and antagonist character can be formed in certain design character, including fabel, story that place animal as main character. Dufan the Defender, is one of local animated movie series that applied anthropomorphism in the characters. One of the thing that interesting is this movie use rare and endangered species of animal of Indonesia, such as proboscismonkey, deer, komodo, boar, and some other animal, including mythical animal, garuda. Research of this movie leads to study of design character, as appreciation of those effort. The next matter is how the idea visualized as movie characters, build upon the principal of designing cartooned animated movie character. Research approach based on discipline and paradigm model, where an object be understood according to principle, how it works and rules in those area of scientific discipline. Some aspects had been determined, protagonist and antagonist nature or character, and species of the animal, the endangered animal and mythical animal.
