Abstract

This research is meant to study the influences of Bush Doctrine to the process of Korea reunification. Transnational counter-terrorism issue has become a primary theme of foreign policy of the United States of America after the Black September (9/11) has happened in 2001. Bush Doctrine is based on State of the Union in January 29, 2002 and National Security Strategy in September 20, 2002. The controversial character of Bush Doctrine and the categorizing of North Korea as a part of “axis of evil” has arise became a polemic while faced at the moment that trilateral relation among North Korea, South Korea, and United States of America (government term of Bill Clinton; pre-government of George Walker Bush) was increasing and realization of reunification which indicated by Kim Dae-Jung’s “Sunshine Policy”, the historical North-South Korea Summit, and the freezing of nuclear installation in Yŏngbyŏn (Agreed Framework) for the first time since 1986. This research used a decriptive-analytical research method, and the technique of data collecting is done based on empirical data and facts by means of literature study, included by internet media. By the research, the researcher formulized the hypothesis as follows: “if the foreign policy of United States of America by means of Bush Doctrine in the shape of pre-emptive, military superiority, unilateralism, and the commitment as a “globocop” in the name of extending of democracy, freedom, and security to whole regions is implmented in Korean case related to North Korea nuclear proliferation issue, so that the process of Korea reunification would be experienced the stalemate”. The conclusion from result of this research is that idiosyncrasy of government of George Walker Bush, which neglected the political will of South Korea to maintain and to reach the final goal of reunification, that instead to choose to impose political pressures and economic sanctions against North Korea, came to result the idea of Korean Peninsula reunification lies on stalemate condition along with the spreading of anti-Americanism in South Korea.
