Abstract

Zingiber ofcinale volatile oil theoretically can be developed for the treatment of human lephantiasis inman. Before that idea can he realized some pharmacodynamic studies on smooth muscle organs and 'itsteratogehic effect have to be done. Pharmacodynamic study wasperfomed in isolated trachea, atria, aorta and uterus. Study of teratogenic effect was done in female pregnan rat, and the treatment were perfomed by giving Zingiber ofIcinale volatile oil orally,'onee a day in ~,0.consecutive days, starting from the ,7th to l7th day of pregnancy:'Frnm all of these f ridings, it can, be concluded that Zingiber ofcinale volatile oil .save to be used as antifilariasis agent.
