Abstract

Writing skills is the skill of using language productively, something difficult for students studying Japanese. Failure in communication through writing in Japanese is the fault of lack of understanding regarding language and culture, this also means writing business emails. The purpose of this research is to identify the mistakes students of the State University of Jakarta make when writing business emails. The method used for this research is qualitative descriptive, and the technique for collecting data is through tasks and test of writing emails. Respondents treated as samples in this research is students who take Tegami no Kakikata course during the 108th semester. In this research, it has been determined mistakes made by students of Universitas Negeri Jakarta on writing business email in Japanese language such as 1) mistakes as in grammar accuracy, and 2) mistakes as in discourse accuracy in the natural way. Mistakes found such as using the expression of Itsumo osewa ni natteorimasu in the opening to Uchi, which should be Otsukaresama desu. Besides that, there are some who wrote Kabushikikaisha Eigyoubuchou Yamada Sama. as the receiver in the beginning of the email to Uchi, which should be Yamada Buchou. Those mistakes caused by influenced by Indonesian language and the lack of understanding of Uchi Soto culture on writing business emails in Japanese language.
