Abstract

Pathophisiology and clinical implication of oxidative stress in relation with male infertility have been discussed. It could be concluded that in the human body there was a continuous production of free radicals, which were controlled tightly by antioxidants. Spermatozoa and polimorphonuclear (pmn) cells were the main factors that produce free radicals in human semen. Oxidative stress occurred as the consequences of imbalance between free radicals and antioxidants. Oxidative stress had associations with infertility especially with lost of motility, decrease of morphology, viability, and capacitating ability, and increase of membrane damage. Antioxidants such as glutathione, vitamin C and vitamin E were the potential treatment for male infertility.
