Abstract

Noise is one of pollutants in the air environment. The sound with high intensity can disturb human and fauna in its environment. The objective of the study is to know the effect of high-intensity noise to tyroxine hormone level of mice (Mus musculus). The animals used in this study were 30 female mices (Mus musculus), age : 2-3 months and weight : 20-30 gr They were divided into three groups, i.e. 10 mices for control group, 10 mices were induced by noise of 90-94 dB and 10 mices with 100-104d B. The animal grouping and noise induction were similar to those of Oedono's work (1998) who studied the degenerative cell of Organon Corti of male Rattus Prior to the experiment, the mice had to be acclimated for 10 days and their weight were measured. The experiment was conducted for 12 days at UPPH Laboratory, Gadjah Mada University, Yogyakarta. The result of the study showed that the tyroxine hormone increased in 90-94 dB and 100-104 dB groups. The increased level of tyroxine hormone was not different from Susilowati's study (1989) on triodotironin (T3) hormone level of male Rattus after being induced by high noise of textile machine.
