A laboratory study on the incidence of genital Chlamydia trachmatis infection was carried out in Jakarta. A total of 225 specimens consisting of genital tract epithelialcells collected from patients clinically diagnosed as suffering from genital Chlamydia trachmatis infections were examined in the Department of Microbiology, University of Indonesia School of Medicine, Jakarta.A number of 85 (37.78%) out of atotal number of 225 specimens consisting of genital epithelial cell scrapings showed positive Chlamydia trachmatis infections, which were based on the presence of the pathognomonic Halberstaedter-Prowazek inclusion bodies.The youngest patient examined was 20 years old, while the oldest one had the ageof 57 years. The largest number of genital chlamydial patients studied belonged to the age group of 20 - 35 years, totalling of 116 patients, who could be considered as the sexually active group.The verification of the sex distributionof all patients examined, who were suffering from genital Chlamydia trachmatis infections showed that the male patients were more prevalent than the female ones.
