Background of this research is that a child is not miniature of adult person because a child has ability to grow and develop naturally. There are many factors background child’s growing and development. One of them is nutrition. In their lives, nutrition has important role in growing-development process. Giving good nutrition for child is much influenced by social-economic factor, eating custom, and phychological factor. Purpose of this research generally is to describe family perception about factors background decrease of toddler’s appetite. Research Method is as follows : research design which is used is descriptive research. Samples in this research are families with toddler. There are 50 respondents. The sampling method is purposive sampling. Data collection used questionnaries which had been done in July 1 – 6, 2002 in Yosroati Village, Sumberbaru Subdistrict, Jember Regency. Result of the research is that family perception about factor background toddler’s appetite in Sumberbaru Subdistrict of Jember Regency is positive from 79 % of 50 respondents, and social-economic factor (80,5 %), eating custom factor (82 %), and psychological factor (73 %) are found. So it can be concluded that family perception about factor background decrease of toddler’s appetite is positive. Factor background decrease of appetite are social-economic factor, eating custom factor, and psychological factor. Whereas suggestion which can be given to family regarding matters as above is : family should be able to provide or process food which contains enough nutrittion because nutrition is very important for toddler’s growing and development, giving example of goos eating custom such as situation, place and manner of eating. They also should give attention to their children by having time to feed them.Literatures : 1992 – 2000.
