Abstract

Genetic data processing, such as Hidden Markov Model (HMM) based exon controller, require high specification computing environment and long time computation. The experiments with 20 state number on MATLAB version 2010, running on the 32-bit Windows XP operating systems and hardware specifications of Processor i3-2100 MHz and 3.48 GB RAM required training time 720 seconds and testing time 150 seconds. If viewed from the user needs, will be more easily accepted if implemented as specific applications on embedded systems with low cost hardware and software specifications. Exon controller application on Android based computing environments that run at 400MHz ARM926T processor with 64MB RAM with 32 -bit data bus has been done in this study. Android environment chosen by making it easier for developers to provide an interface that is easily accessible by the user. HMM-based exon controller is implemented using Java library. This application has three main modules, namely input module, process module, and the module output. This applications just implement the prediction process, based on a model created with MATLAB, with consideration of computation time and memory space is still relatively very large to the training process. Test results expressed in terms of the performance of applications on embedded systems as compared to the performance of an application for the same process if done in MATLAB -based computing environment. Test results show that the application of exon as the controller application specific embedded system applications in terms of computing is still acceptable and highly efficient in terms of cost
